follow-me-drone is a small drone designed to follow you and take selfies automatically. It tracks your face and recognizes your hand gestures. This makes it easy to control without any remote or phone. It works with the DJI Tello drone and uses computer vision to keep you centered in the frame. The drone can also stabilize itself using its internal sensors.
To run follow-me-drone on your Windows PC, make sure your system meets these minimum requirements:
- Windows 10 or newer (64-bit)
- Intel Core i3 processor or equivalent
- 4 GB RAM or more
- USB port (for connecting the drone controller if needed)
- Wi-Fi adapter (to connect to the drone)
- At least 2 GB free disk space
- A webcam or built-in camera is optional but can improve tracking setup
If you want smooth performance and better results, a newer processor and more RAM are recommended.
Follow these steps to download, install, and start using follow-me-drone on your Windows computer.

On that page, look for a file with a name like follow-me-drone-setup.exe or similar ending in .exe. Download that file to your computer.
After the download finishes:
- Open the
.exefile by double-clicking it. - Follow the on-screen prompts in the installer.
- Choose a folder to install the program (the default location usually works).
- Allow the installer to finish.
No additional software or programming skills are needed.
To control the drone with follow-me-drone, you need to connect it to your computer over Wi-Fi:
- Turn on your DJI Tello drone.
- On your Windows PC, open the Wi-Fi settings.
- Connect to the drone’s Wi-Fi network (called something like
TELLO-XXXXXX). - Once connected, make sure your PC stays connected to this network while using follow-me-drone.
After installation:
- Open the follow-me-drone program from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
- The main screen will show your webcam feed and drone status.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to start face tracking.
- Use simple hand gestures to control the drone’s movements.

Once installed, follow-me-drone creates a folder with these important parts:
