Subnautica-PDA-Keyboard-Project
A 20-key shortcut macropad inspired by the PDA from Subnautica, built for Hack Club Fallout by Lilyana Grabrovaz & Vivaan Anand.
It is a handheld macropad designed to open applications and navigate shortcuts just like navigating 4546-B. It was styled after the iconic PDA from planet 4546-B. Think like a Streamdeck, but Subnautica-themed and with real keycaps.
- It has 20 programmable keys.
- Opens apps, switches tabs, runs shortcuts.
- It has a handheld form factor which keeps your desk uncluttered.
We both love Subnautica and wanted to commemorate Subnautica 2's Release by making our project inspired by one of the base game's most iconic designs. We combined the inspiration from subnautica's cool tech with a genuinely useful tool; a compact shortcut pad you hold in one hand, just like the in-game PDA.
Press any key to trigger its programmed shortcut. Configure keys to open apps, switch tabs, or run macros.
To flash the Pico W firmware, you first need to unplug it from the computer, then you need to reconnect it in BOOTSEL mode by pressing the white BOOTSEL button while simultaneously plugging it back into your computer. Once the computer recognizes the drive, stop pressing the BOOTSEL button. After this you need to open the Thonny IDE application, click on the interpreter menu and click configure interpreter. Make sure the tab is set to MicroPython, then click the link that says install/update MicroPython. When a new box pops up, click your RP1-RP2 from target port/volume, click Raspberry Pi from MicroPython family, and click the variant Raspberry Pi Pico W. Then click install.
