Shotguns do not eject shells, while the Rifle and SMG both eject their casings.
This would be a nice and easy addition, as it adds more immersion, and more opportunities for customization/skin modding. I already have pre-made empty shells that I made myself, if that would be of use. Current, non-functioning "shells" in the Shotgun's files:
