MIssing _vna_python.pyd for windows

Hi, I am trying to get the python api running on windows for the PicoVNA 108. However, in the SDK (PicoVNA 5 SDK v5.3.1) there is no _vna_python.pyd file in the python/windows folder, while this is required to run the examples. Which explains that I get the error "No module named '_vna_python'". How to fix this?

Hi, thanks for raising this. It looks like an oversight in the packaging of the 5.3.1 SDK.

The best way to proceed would be to use the 5.3.4 SDK, which is due to be released later this month. In 5.3.4, we switch to using wheels for Python packaging, which fixes all the previous tedium with paths and installing the _vna_python.pyd file.

Here's the wheel for 5.3.4.

To install the wheel:

• delete all previously-installed files (ftd2xx.dll, _vna_python.pyd, vna.dll, vna.py) and remove the previous python package (pip uninstall vna)
• install the wheel: pip install C:\path\to\picovna-5.3.4-py3-none-win_amd64.whl
• that's it: no need to install or copy any other files

There is one change necessary in 5.3.4:

Change

from vna import vna

to

from picovna import vna

This is due to the updated name of the wheel.
