An ergodic explanation for the evolutionary advantage of cooperation, based on Peters & Adamou (2018).

Entities that pool and share resources grow faster in the time-average sense, even though the ensemble average is identical for cooperators and non-cooperators. The growth-rate advantage scales as sigma^2/2 * (1 - 1/N).
