Nexus AI: Career Readiness Coach for College Students

One-Sentence Pitch

Nexus AI helps college students turn scattered internship preparation into a trackable career workspace with readiness scoring, skill-gap analysis, priority alerts, and weekly next actions.

Problem

Students often manage internship preparation across job boards, spreadsheets, notes apps, resume drafts, saved links, and disconnected advice. That makes it difficult to know which applications need attention, which skills are missing, which projects prove readiness, and what to do next each week.

Target User

College students preparing for internships, fellowships, and early-career roles, especially students who are building portfolios while balancing classes, certifications, networking, and applications.

AI Builder Angle

Nexus AI is designed around AI-assisted decision support. The current version uses transparent rule-based coaching logic so students can see why each recommendation appears. The next version can connect IBM Granite or watsonx to generate natural-language coaching while keeping the same evidence-based structure.

This approach keeps the AI accountable: recommendations are tied to visible student data such as target role, skills, project proof, application status, networking activity, and deadlines.

How The App Works

  1. A student starts with a blank workspace.
  2. The student saves a target role, major, graduation timeline, and weekly focus hours.
  3. The student adds applications, certifications, projects, skills, networking contacts, interviews, goals, and resume notes.
  4. Nexus calculates readiness signals from the workspace.
  5. The dashboard shows priority alerts, skill gaps, analytics, coaching cards, and weekly next actions.
  6. The student can export a workspace snapshot or connect to the FastAPI backend for persistent CRUD workflows.
