This crate hasn't seen much love from neither me nor Empty2k12. Neither of us uses influxdb or has for a long time. While this crate was always in a state where it works, there definitely are parts of this code that could be improved if someone invested some time.
I have released the current state as version 0.8, so at least all the "future incompatibility" warnings (so much for semver, rustc ...) should go away. Eventhough comments like this one were really not making me feel like investing even those few hours of work: Yelling at maintainers because of this "huge duplicate" of their dependencies they are causing isn't exactly motivating.
Moving forwards, this crate should be given into the hands of some maintainers that actually have a use case of influxdb with Rust and want to give this crate the love that it deserves. If you feel like that could be you, please do get in touch, for example by responding to this issue.
