X gender in roster

I see X's in the roster file under gender. We should visually inspect these cases, but from the ones I've seen this usually means "missing entry" and the data entry person decided to put an X instead.

I don't remember seeing these. Do you know whether they come solely from the salary/award data? More importantly, maybe the meaning is "officer chooses not to disclose, or does not identify with any of the genders in the system" (only male and female in the CPD database as far as I am aware). This would be quite a different meaning from "missing entry".

No idea whether they only come from salary awards. My guess is that they would be from the awards data. Agreed re: making sure they are actually missing and not "my gender does not fit into the M/F categorization".

The one case I am aware of appears as one of those suspicious "copied blocks" in the awards data -- here I'd be confident calling this a missing entry:
